Colony Theatre

Colony Theatre

Facility

The Colony Theatre, built in 1919, is a 1,000-seat facility that can accommodate major touring acts and local arts organizations. The theater was used as a venue for live performances and film screenings until the mid-1980s. Local sponsors intend to undertake a phased project to renovate and reopen the local landmark in downtown Marietta.

Current Project

A need for the project was determined at the Commission's August 2005 meeting, and a memorandum of understanding was entered into that outlines the steps to be completed by the project sponsor prior to the Commission's determining that there is substantial regional support for the project and approving the use of state funds for construction. The project has two appropriations totaling $585,000. The local sponsor is working to complete the fundraising campaign, and to determine a specific project scope for the use of state funds.
