The Ohio Historical Center in Columbus was completed in 1970 to house the Ohio Historical Society’s central museum, archives, library and administrative staff.
Located in the Ohio Historical Center, the archives/library preserves and makes available to the public written and graphic information about Ohio’s history. It also serves as the state archives of Ohio - the designated repository for state government records of enduring historic value. Family history researchers, academic historians, students, and others use its resources. Prior state funds of $750,000 helped the society digitize selected records in the state archives and library collections, and expanded historical content gathered via the Internet. The current project, which received a $300,000 appropriation in Am. Sub. H.B. 699 of the 126th General Assembly, consists of organizing, cataloging, and digitizing society collections, including recently deposited records of the Taft administration. During fiscal year 2008, staff processed 68 record series of the Taft-transferred records.
