Site exhibit improvements and new outdoor exhibits funded through a $625,000 appropriation in Am. Sub. H.B. 675 of the 124th General Assembly will occur at a number of Ohio Historical Society sites: Custer Monument in Harrison County; Harding Tomb in Marion County; Serpent Mound in Adams County; Harrison Tomb in Hamilton County; Miamisburg Mound in Montgomery County; Quaker Meeting House in Jefferson County; and the Ohio River Museum in Washington County. In previous years, work was completed at Harrison Tomb, Custer Monument, the Ohio River Museum, and Quaker Meeting House. During fiscal year 2008, the exhibit text was finalized for the Ohio River Museum kiosk.
Funds of $650,000 were appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 of the 127th General Assembly, and will be used for a variety of repairs around the site system, including reconstruction of the dam at Indian Mill, creation of ADA-compliant restrooms at the National Road and the Armstrong Air and Space museums, and painting of Tallmadge Church. Prior state funds totaling $554,000 were appropriated for improvements at Glendower (completed in fiscal year 2008, prior to the transfer of the Glendower site to the Warren County Historical Society in December 2007), the Hayes Presidential Center (planning for interior restoration was undertaken during fiscal year 2008), the Museum of Ceramics in Columbiana County (completed in fiscal year 2006), the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center in Greene County (completed in fiscal year 2005), and the Quaker Meeting House in Jefferson County (completed in fiscal year 2006); for a structural evaluation of Lockington Locks (completed in fiscal year 2006); and to acquire land at Rankin House.
