The Cleveland Public Theatre is a leading experimental performance venue sponsoring dance, music, poetry, and performance art, as well as live theater.
As part of a phase-one capital project, the organization will build a connector to join the Cleveland Public Theatre building to the adjacent Gordon Square Theatre building (also owned by Cleveland Public Theatre), and perform exterior weatherization at both buildings. State funds of $1.4 million will contribute to the project, and were approved by the Commission in August 2009. The funds come from a total of $1.9 million in appropriations for the Gordon Square Arts District, which is comprised of the Cleveland Public Theatre, Near West Theatre, and the Capitol Theatre of the Detroit Shoreway. The Cleveland Public Theatre previously completed HVAC work, door and window replacements, plumbing and electrical upgrades, and carpentry and plaster work using a $112,000 share of a larger state appropriation for the West Side Arts Consortium.
