The Quaker Meeting House in Mount Pleasant was the first Quaker meeting house west of the Alleghenies. Built in 1814, the brick building has a capacity of 2,000, and was a remarkable engineering achievement. Its design reflects the Quakers’ simple lifestyle, and its architecture and construction convey their ingenuity and industry. The auditorium and its balcony could be divided into two rooms by lowering a wooden partition. A $59,143 state appropriation helped fund building and exhibit renovation and site improvements.
