Indian Mill

Indian Mill

Facility

Indian Mill is the nation’s first educational museum of milling in an original milling structure. Built in 1861 on the Sandusky River, this restored building stands near the site of a previous mill that was built by the U.S. government for the Wyandot Indians in appreciation of their loyalty during the War of 1812.

Current Project

Improvements funded through a $112,000 state appropriation in Am. Sub. H.B. 850 of the 122nd General Assembly have included the replacement of the slate roof, repair and painting of the exterior siding, structural repairs, and exhibit improvements, as well as plans for the replacement of the millpond dam. The appropriation of $66,000 by the 126th General Assembly in Am. Sub. H.B. 699 will be used toward the rebuilding of the millpond dam, which was destroyed in spring flooding several years ago. Additional funds for the project, appropriated under "Statewide Site Repairs" in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 of the 127th General Assembly, also will be used for the dam rebuilding, with expected completion in 2009.
