Hayes Presidential Center

Hayes Presidential Center

Facility

Spiegel Grove, a stately Victorian mansion, was home to Rutherford B. Hayes, an Ohio governor and 19th president of the United States. Also situated on the property is the first presidential library in the United States. The site is a National Historic Landmark.

Current Project

State funds through seven appropriations total $4.178 million for the site. New funds are for restoration of several rooms in the Hayes mansion, for which planning began during fiscal year 2008. The interior restoration project is expected to take several years. Other state-funded projects have included the replacement of the roofs and HVAC systems at the house and library, restoration of the fence surrounding the estate, and improvement of the library auditorium.
