Harding Home and Tomb

Harding Home and Tomb

Facility

In 1920, Warren G. Harding conducted his famous “front-porch campaign” for the presidency from his Marion home, now a National Historic Landmark. Behind the home is the Press House, which served as campaign headquarters. When the home was restored in 1965, the Press House was converted into a museum and administrative offices. Nearby is the Harding Tomb, which was completed in 1927. The white marble tomb, which contains the remains of President and Mrs. Harding, resembles a circular Greek temple.

Current Project

Past state appropriations totaling $579,392 have funded the restoration of the Harding Tomb, the replacement of the slate roof on the Harding Home, and improvements to the exhibits in the Press House. In 2004, an adjacent property was acquired for future parking, and restoration of the front porch was completed. Recent appropriations totaling $550,000 will be used for further restoration of the Harding Tomb.
