Created by the merger of the Dayton Museum of Natural History and the Children’s Museum of Dayton, the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is an interactive science and learning facility.
A $250,000 appropriation in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 of the 127th General Assembly will be used for upgrades to the Boonshoft's Wild Ohio Zoo, which opened in 1991. The first phase of a planned multiphase project, the zoo renovation will create a more natural and organic feel, with larger spaces for animals, multi-species exhibits and new interactive exhibits. The redesign project will take advantage of new environmentally friendly building practices and products. The project received Commission approval in November 2009. A previous $1.25-million state appropriation was used to construct an $8-million, 10,000-square-foot addition to the existing Museum of Natural History that opened in May 2000.
