DeYor Performing Arts Center

DeYor Performing Arts Center

Facility

Powers Auditorium, heralded as the "finest theatre ever built," was originally opened in 1931 by the Warner brothers, founders of Warner Brothers Pictures, Inc. Today, the auditorium is part of a larger complex called the DeYor Performing Arts Center, which hosts an array of artistic performances, meetings, and events in the Youngstown community.

Current Project

The DeYor Performing Arts Center has been reimbursed $1.2 million of a total $2.125 million through six state appropriations. A $250,000 appropriation assisted with the creation of the Eleanor Beecher Flad Pavilion and Ford Family Recital Hall, which held grand opening ceremonies in April 2006. Previous appropriations have helped to fund interior and exterior improvements to Powers Auditorium and the adjacent Adler Building, which was renovated to become the Adler Art Academy and opened in 2004. Funds of $800,000 received Commission approval in February 2009 as additional reimbursement for the Eleanor Beecher Flad Pavilion, and local project sponsors will use remaining funds of $125,000 to assist with the purchase and installation of a new flyable acoustical shell and rigging at Powers Auditorium. The use of funds to purchase the new acoustical shell was approved by the Commission in November 2009.
