McCook House

McCook House

Facility

Daniel McCook built this handsome brick home where his family lived until 1853. During the Civil War, Daniel's family contributed nine soldiers to the Union cause, including five generals, and his brother John's family contributed five officers. The family became known as the “Fighting McCooks” because of their extensive military service. Four of Daniel's family, including Daniel himself, died in the war. The restored house is maintained as a museum, and features several period rooms and a large room of exhibits on the McCook family and the Civil War.

Current Project

Funds totaling $500,000 appropriated by the 127th General Assembly in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 will be used to repair structural problems with the house and to improve exhibits.
