The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium attracts more than 1.5 million visitors each year through its world-class facilities dedicated to animal care, conservation, education and recreation. Through a multi-phase capital improvements plan, the Columbus Zoo continues to enhance its status as a regional and national tourist destination.
The zoo’s current project is the creation of Animal Encounter Village, where zoo guests will interact with zoo animals and animal care staff. The village is designed to spark a passion for nature and conservation by giving visitors rare up-close-and-personal experiences with the animals. The project received a $500,000 appropriation from the 127th General Assembly in Am. Sub. H.B. 562, which was approved by the Commission in August 2009.
