The Fayette County Museum is housed in the former Morris Sharp estate, and is operated by the Fayette County Historical Society. Built in 1875, the Victorian mansion was restored by the society and opened as a historical museum in 1965. The museum is the only public facility dedicated to the collection and display of Fayette County history.
A capital appropriation of $150,000 in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 of the 127th General Assembly will assist the society with a number of improvements at the museum, including reconstruction of the side porch foundation and floor framing, creation of a side entrance, installation of a downspout drainage system and a basement dehumidification system, improvements to the carriage house, and construction of an ADA-compliant entrance ramp. The project received Commission approval in February 2009.
