Historical Center - Collections Storage Facility

Historical Center - Collections Storage Facility

Facility

The Ohio Historical Center in Columbus was completed in 1970 to house the Ohio Historical Society’s central museum, archives, library and administrative staff.

Current Project

Over the three decades since the construction of the Ohio Historical Center, the breadth of the Ohio Historical Society’s responsibilities and public services required collections storage to be relocated in offsite buildings that are not adequate for collections storage. A 61,000-square-foot new collections storage facility will be located adjacent to the existing Historical Center. An appropriation of $1.24 million was included in Am. Sub. H.B. 699 of the 126th General Assembly to fund programming and design of the project, to purchase of equipment, and to prepare collections for relocation to the planned facility. During fiscal year 2008, the funds were used to create a detailed program of requirements for the new facility, and an additional $1.24 million was appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 of the 127th General Assembly for continued work on the project.
