Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission approved $200,000 at its quarterly meeting today for the Sylvania Historical Village.
Through its extensive collections, historic buildings and educational programs, Sylvania Historical Village conveys the history of Sylvania and Northwest Ohio and its early settlers. The 1.2-acre village includes an 1840s log home, the 1844 Stone Academy, a blacksmith and carpentry shop, the Heritage Center Museum, a railroad depot, the Sister City Garden, and a gift shop. State funds will contribute to the construction of a “car barn” to house two donated train cars: a 1915 Baldwin—a Westinghouse locomotive built for the Toledo & Western Railway; and a restored 1924 wood caboose of the Toledo, Angola & Western Railroad.
The Commission approval, coupled with the signing of legal agreements, allows the city of Sylvania to be reimbursed on a pro rata basis with funds appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 of the 127th General Assembly. Lucas County General Assembly members who voted in favor of the bill include Senators Teresa Fedor and Mark Wagoner; and Representatives Edna Brown, Barbara Sears, Matt Szollosi and Peter Ujvagi.
