Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission approved $100,000 at its quarterly meeting today for the Gallia County Historical Society, located in Gallipolis.
Housed in a 1960 former department store, the Gallia County Historical Society maintains a collection of historical and genealogical material pertaining to the Gallia County area, and operates a county museum and a military museum honoring local veterans. State funds will contribute to an energy efficiency project at the building, including upgrades to heating and cooling units, updates to lighting, and replacement of old storefront glass with energy efficient glass.
The Commission approval, coupled with the signing of legal agreements, allows the Gallia County Historical Society to be reimbursed on a pro rata basis with funds appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 699 of the 126th General Assembly. Gallia County General Assembly members who voted in favor of the bill include Senator John Carey and Representative Clyde Evans.
