Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission approved $4.9 million at its quarterly meeting today for the Toledo Marina District Riverwalk project in Lucas County.
The state capital appropriations will be used by the city of Toledo for the development of the Riverwalk portion of the $300-million Marina District development. The Riverwalk will develop 35 acres of city-owned land along the Maumee River. The project will feature a public road, multipurpose path, boardwalk, public gathering places, and open-air performance spaces. The project offers multiple sites which will be used for public entertainment and cultural programming, including concert bands, string quartets, vocal ensembles and folk and rock groups, as well as visual arts programs and other cultural activities.
The Commission approval, coupled with the signing of legal agreements, allows the city of Toledo to be reimbursed on a pro rata basis with funds appropriated in Am. H.B. 530 and Am. Sub. H.B. 699 of the 126th General Assembly. Lucas County General Assembly members who voted in favor of the bills include Senators Teresa Fedor and Mark Wagoner, Representatives Edna Brown, Randy Gardner and Peter Ujvagi, and former Representative Jeanine Perry.
