Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission approved $100,000 at its quarterly meeting today for the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts.
The Covedale Center for the Performing Arts serves as the home of Cincinnati Young People’s Theatre. Formerly a neighborhood movie house, the theater was purchased by Cincinnati Landmark Productions in 2002 and rehabilitated through four phases of work. The current project consists of backstage construction and renovation to create 1,700 square feet of additional space on two floors, adding a new electrical distribution system, building dressing rooms, and installing water lines, sewer lines, and restrooms backstage.
The Commission approval, coupled with the signing of legal agreements, allows Cincinnati Landmark Productions to be reimbursed on a pro rata basis with funds appropriated in Am. Sub. H.B. 562 of the 127th General Assembly. Hamilton County General Assembly members who voted in favor of the bill include Senators Eric Kearney, Robert Schuler and Bill Seitz; Representatives Louis Blessing, Dale Mallory, Robert Mecklenborg, and Tyrone Yates; and former Representatives Steve Driehaus, Jim Raussen, and Michelle Schneider.
